We’ve already seen conservative pundits rushing to Herman Cain’s defense following the growing scandal around his behavior as CEP of the National Restaurant Association in the late ’90s.

But only G. Gordon Liddy — ex-Watergate burglar, radio talk show host and gold salesman — tried to move the story in a romantic direction.

“Ladies, in the light of the Herman Cain controversy is there a politician whose advances you would welcome?” the account associated with Liddy’s radio show tweeted Tuesday.

As a reminder, reports of Cain’s behavior (though sometimes contradictory and still sketchy) include a woman being “taken aback by one interaction” with Cain and repeated incidents of behavior perceived as so inappropriate that the women went to their HR department and demanded something be done.

Anyway, Liddy and many other conservative pundits are moving on — in Liddy’s case, into a totally unexpected direction.
