Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal (R), perhaps Rick Perry’s most prized endorsement, told FOX News on Friday that the two differ on the issue of immigration. He also declined to back up Perry’s own immigration attacks against Mitt Romney.

Fox and Friends’ Gretchen Carlson asked Jindal whether he backed Perry’s decision to offer in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.

“I don’t,” he said. “He and I aren’t going to agree 100% on everything. But I respect the fact he spent $400 million of Texas taxpayer dollars to help secure the border. We’re not going to agree on 100% of everything, but I do agree he’s cut taxes, created jobs, and that’s the track record we need for America.”

Jindal passed on a chance to turn the tables on Mitt Romney, choosing to praise both governors’ immigration records after being asked about Perry’s decision to raise the issue of Romney’s use of a lawn company that employed undocumented workers.

“Do you understand why he brought it up?” host Brian Kilmeade asked.

“Well, two things,” Jindal. “One, I think both Governor Perry and Governor Romney understand that President Obama has failed to secure the border. And I think at the end of the day, both these governors understand that we can’t continue to have an open border. We need to use whatever it takes to secure our border, stop this problem of illegal immigration. The answer is not amnesty. And I think both understand that.”
