One thing to bear in mind about the deficit/debt debate: Democrats are perfectly happy to talk about their vision for the role of government and how to achieve it, in part via higher tax rates, but a lot of the Republican hue and cry about the current budget “crisis” is intended to force Americans to embrace their vision for the future whether voters like it or not.
