The tell here is the fact that the congressional Republicans — and not just the conservative entertainment complex (what a wonderfully useful phrase) — are obsessively focused on who said what on the Sunday talkers, or whether Obama’s initial Rose Garden remarks were intentionally misleading, etc. — in other words, on the political spin, not the substance.

Part of me wonders if that’s because they know the administration can’t talk about what actually was going on inside the Benghazi consulate, and thus can’t defend itself very well, or because they’ve finally reached the point where the endless Beltway mind games are the only thing that’s actually real to them.

Either way, it’s another sign of an opposition party that is rapidly slipping into complete irrelevance in terms of the actual conduct of U.S. foreign policy.
