The Gravity is Strong, Part #4

Early this afternoon, we recorded Episode #3 of The Josh Marshall Podcast. We decided to do this one without a guest, just me and David. Something has changed about the Russia probe in the last ten days. It’s no one thing, it’s several overlapping developments which paint a picture that is far more far-reaching and sinister than what I at least was willing to suspect. So I wanted to try to put those threads together in this new episode and explain how they connect up to one another. The President is freaking out and acting out for one reason: the tightening grip of the Mueller probe. Everything stems from that. It’s our job to see as clearly we can what developments under the surface – which the President and his top advisors likely know and we don’t – are driving this.

This Nunberg blow up happened after we finished recording. Perhaps it’s just his own private antics. But I suspect it is part of this tightening clutch of the probe that I mentioned above. Nunberg does a lot of TV. I’ve seen him on a lot of shows just in the last couple weeks. He’s never said anything remotely like this. Though he’s expressed skepticism that President did anything wrong, he’s never said anything remotely like this. He found something in his own subpoenaed emails, very belatedly realized how serious this is, or – I suspect – someone got to him.

As I wrote almost exactly a year ago when Jeff Sessions was first yanked into the Russia scandal, one of characteristics of major, shattering scandals is that secondary or tertiary figures who seem distant from the main action keep getting yanked under the water with little warning.
