"This determination comes as good news to our local communities who are dealing with the effects of the storm. We cannot thank the governor's office and FEMA enough for their continued support."
Palazzo has been on the ground working with other federal, state, and local officials since before Hurricane Isaac first reached Mississippi's shores on Tuesday, August 28th.
A total of 34 counties, including all 15 counties in the Fourth Congressional District, were included in the designation. They are as follows:
Amite, Attala, Carroll, Clarke, Copiah, Covington, Forrest, George, Greene, Grenada, Hancock, Harrison, Hinds, Holmes, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Lincoln, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Rankin, Stone, Walthall, Wayne, Wilkinson and Yazoo.
Mississippi also received approval to administer FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Program. This program provides assistance for actions that reduce the risk to life and property from natural hazards.
