I had intended to do this on Friday. But with the horrific news out of Dallas I decided to wait. I want to tell you about a major expansion of Prime, TPM’s membership program. Over the next two months we’re going to be rolling out a number of new features and additions. But the one I want to tell you about most is The Arch, a new longform magazine we’re about to launch as part of Prime.

You’ll see the first piece tomorrow, followed by another every two weeks.

Longform articles have always been part of Prime. But it’s never been a part we’ve done terribly well. But we didn’t have that part of the operation properly staffed and I didn’t have a clear vision of what I wanted it to be. Now we do. And now I do.

This is part of a significant editorial shift at TPM, one that’s been made possible by those who’ve signed up for Prime in its first few years. We now have just a bit under 11,000 subscribers and hope to add several thousand more in the annual sign up drive we’re kicking off later this week. In addition to a significant editorial shift, it’s also a significant organizational and business shift, one that incorporates a lot I’ve learned about the publishing business in recent years and one I believe will make TPM a better publication.
