So Where Is Edward Snowden?

For all the other issues raised by the last two weeks of drama, I think we can say with little doubt that Snowden has put OJ epically to shame in teasing out the full dramatic potential of the slow speed chase genre. But what is he doing exactly? The Chinese clearly wanted to wash their hands of this as quickly as they could. We’re cashing out, they seemed to be saying, we don’t want anything to do with this mess of yours. But the Russians looked at it and said, Hey, play me in. We’d love to play this hand.

The latest we can tell is that Snowden remains in Moscow after missing a flight to Cuba which may itself have been a ruse to snooker a bunch of Western journalists on a one way trip to Havana.

From the AP report

A high-ranking Ecuadorean official told The Associated Press that Russia and Ecuador were discussing where Snowden could go, and the process could take days. He also said Ecuador’s ambassador to Moscow had not seen or spoken to Snowden. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

What’s to discuss exactly? Is he going to Ecuador or not?

I’m really not suggesting anything. Complete mystery to me what’s going on. But clearly more than we’re seeing on the surface.
