Pot & Gay Marriage

Interesting poll data showing that the age gradient on marijuana policy is similar to that on gay marriage, if not quite as extreme. Voters under 30 support it, the population at large is roughly divided and older voters are strongly opposed. In some ways, this is the McGovern McCain redux, forty years later, only now it’s winning.

What I’m curious about in this case: is this age gradient new? As in it would not surprise me if kids have always been pretty open to legalization. And perhaps their views change as they get older? Not sure. But I’m starting to wonder whether marijuana will even be illegal — at least in most of this country — in ten years.
