Judge Vic Rawl — the man who lost to the mysterious Alvin Greene in Tuesday’s Democratic Senate primary in South Carolina — says that his campaign is actively searching for irregularities following Rep. Jim Clyburn’s (D-SC) allegations that Greene was planted in the race by outside forces.

“There are a number of serious allegations out there about the election,” Rawl said in a statement today. “No one yet knows if they are true.”

But Rawl said the allegations “should be taken very seriously,” and said the truth about Greene’s race should come out.

“If any of the allegations have merit,” he said, “the people of South Carolina have a right to know that.”

Rawl, who got just over 40% of the vote Tuesday, said his campaign is actively looking for antyhing suspicious in the results. He didn’t say what he’ll do if he finds them, nor did he join Clyburn’s call for an official investigation by law enforcement of the Greene campaign.

As for the man who defeated him in a landslide June 8, Rawl refrained from calling on him to drop out of the Senate race, as other state Democrats have.

“What happens next is entirely in his hands,” Rawl said. “I wish him well, and hope he makes his decisions in the best interests of his family and the people of South Carolina.”
