Nikki Haley: ‘We Do Not Want A Massachusetts Health Care Plan In South Carolina’
Appearing on This Week, Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) said that Mitt Romney would continue to have to deal with the issue of health care reform. “I will tell you we do not want a Massachusetts health care plan in South Carolina. I think that he will have to continue to deal with that issue. I think he’s going to have to talk about how that was not good for the country. That wouldn’t be a good thing that we’d want to mandate on all of our states. And I think he’ll have to respond to what his thought process was. But I think that we are looking for a leader that’s willing to, one, make courageous stands, take strong policy decisions, but two, also admit when a mistake was made.”

Boehner: ‘Medicare, Medicaid – Everything Should Be On The Table, Except Raising Taxes’
Appearing on Face The Nation, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) reiterated his objection to any tax increases in order to deal with the deficit, which President Obama has said would have to be part of a solution. “The people he’s talking about taxing are the very people that we expect to reinvest in our economy and to create jobs,” said Boehner. He also added: “Medicare, Medicaid – everything should be on the table, except raising taxes.”

Boehner: Government Has ‘Dragged Out The Length Of Time For The Market To Clear The Problems’ Of The Housing Crisis
Also during his appearance on Face The Nation, Boehner said the government could not solve the housing crisis. “Over the last couple years, Congress has really set up four programs to help with those mortgage problems. And unfortunately, none of those have worked. And all they’ve really done is dragged out the length of time for the market to clear the problems,” said Boehner. He also added: “I was skeptical of these programs when they were approved. I’m even more skeptical today that there’s anything the government can do to resolve these problems.”

Durbin: ‘Democrats Are Prepared To Talk About The Future Of Major Entitlement Programs’
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) said that Democrats could work on compromises for Medicare and Social Security: “Democrats are prepared to talk about the future of major entitlement programs, reform that is not going to deny the basic protections, which we put in the programs, but acknowledges the fact that we have serious economic problems ahead of us if we don’t have some reform in both Medicare and Social Security.”

Paul Ryan: ‘I Plan On Making An Announcement Very Quickly’ On Possible Senate Bid
Appearing on State of the Union, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) said that he would decide quickly whether to run for the open U.S. Senate seat in Wisconsin, where Democratic Sen. Herb Kohl has announced his retirement. “Herb just announced this Friday, it was a bit of a surprise to all of us,” Ryan said. “So my family and supporters, we just started digesting this. I plan on making an announcement very quickly. I don’t want to dwindle on this but we’re just beginning to process this information.”

Ron Paul On Strauss-Kahn Arrest: ‘These Are The Kind Of People That Are Running The IMF’
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) commented on the arrest Saturday of International Monetary Fund head Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who is accused of sexual assault, in order to renew his opposition to the IMF. “These are the kind of people that are running the IMF and we want to turn the world finances and the control of the money supply to them,” Paul said. “That should awaken everybody to the fact that they ought to look into the IMF and find out why we shouldn’t be sacrificing more sovereignty to an organization like that and an individual like he was.”
