Gov. Mark Sanford’s (R-SC) book publisher, Sentinel, has released him from his contract. However, the deal fell through after Sanford got in trouble for disappearing to Argentina to visit his mistress, and he and publisher have agreed to part ways.

Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC) is also facing a call from former state GOP chairman Katon Dawson to donate his remaining $1.69 million campaign war chest to other political causes, such as the state party, now that his own political career appears to be over. “This was front page all over the country, so it will take a while to mount a charge back financially,” said Dawson. “The $19.5 million we have raised over the last seven years has been put in jeopardy for the short run.”

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is attempting to use the final outcome of the Ricci case as a wedge against Sonia Sotomayor, focusing in on her past work as a legal adviser with the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund. “During her time there, the organization took extreme positions on legal issues ranging from the death penalty to abortion to racial quotas,” said Sessions.

DeMint Supports Honduras Coup, Blasts Obama For Opposing It
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) has come out in support of the military coup against leftist Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, and he criticized President Obama for opposing it: “I am hopeful that as President Obama grows in office, he will eventually turn away from despots like Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, and Zelaya, and give the United States’ full-throated support to the people of any country who are fighting for the same values we cherish and defend in America.”

McCain And Feingold Team Up To Force FEC Action
Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Russ Feingold (D-WI) are teaming up again on election reform — blocking an appointment to the Federal Election Commission until President Obama also agrees to fill two other open seats, in protest of what they called “anti-enforcement gridlock.” The two said in a statement: “The president must nominate new commissioners with a demonstrated commitment to the existence and enforcement of the campaign finance laws.”

Waxman Released From Hospital
Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) was released from the hospital yesterday, after having fainted in his office on Tuesday. “Chairman Waxman is being discharged from Cedars-Sinai today,” a spokesman said. “He is in good health and will be back to work in Washington next week.”

Obama Hosting 20 VIP’s For Sleepover At Camp David
President Obama’s daughter Malia is having her 11th birthday at Camp David this weekend, with about 20 of her friends from school having already joined her there. This is starting to sound like that Saturday Night Live sketch from a few months ago, of the Republican leadership strategizing how they’ll gin up some scandals and outrage against the White House.
