Panel: GOP Plan To Extend Tax Cuts For Rich Adds $36 Billion To Deficit
The Washington Post reports: “A Republican plan to extend tax cuts for the rich would add more than $36 billion to the federal deficit next year — and transfer the bulk of that cash into the pockets of the nation’s millionaires, according to a congressional analysis released Wednesday. New data from the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation show that households earning more than $1 million a year would reap nearly $31 billion in tax breaks under the GOP plan in 2011, for an average tax cut per household of about $100,000.”

Obama’s Day Ahead
President Obama will receive the presidential daily briefing at 9:30 a.m. ET, will receive the economic daily briefing at 10:30 a.m. ET, and will meet with senior advisers at 11:30 a.m. ET. He does not have any scheduled public events.

Top NY Dems Rally Around Rangel At Fundraiser/Birthday Party
The Associated Press reports: “New York’s Democratic political establishment came out in force for embattled U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel on Wednesday, packing a sold-out fundraiser to praise Rangel’s service to the city and state over a 40-year career recently tainted by ethics charges. ‘I’ve been to a lot of funerals, and this damn sure isn’t a funeral,’ Rangel said to loud cheers…The show of public support for Rangel among the state’s highest officials was the most striking element of the evening, given that many of them — including U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo — will face voters in November.”

Report: Wasserman Schultz Eyes Leadership Ladder
CQ reports: “Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is taking all the right steps from now to Election Day to make her a favorite to assume the helm of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee next cycle. The Florida Democrat, who is vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee and vice chairwoman for incumbent retention for the DCCC, is traveling to 20 districts before the midterm elections to raise money and headline campaign events for vulnerable lawmakers.”

The First Wave of Weary Aides Heads for the Exits
The New York Times reports: “Eighteen months into President Obama’s term, some of the first-generation team that arrived with him at the White House are moving on. One by one, usually with little fanfare, they have turned in White House badges and BlackBerrys to rejoin the outside world, some eagerly seeking the exit, others unhappily shown the door. Even in calmer times, the White House is a pressure cooker that can quickly burn out the most idealistic aides, but it may be even more so in an administration that inherited an economic collapse and two wars — and then decided to overhaul the nation’s health care system for good measure. Add to that the nonstop, partisan intensity of the e-mail-Internet-cable era, and it takes a toll.”

Dem Pomeroy Says He Will Push $250 Social Security Payment
Roll Call reports: “Rep. Earl Pomeroy said Wednesday he will push legislation this fall that would provide a one-time $250 payment to seniors as he and two other Democrats, back home in their districts after a one-day House session, touted their party’s efforts to protect Social Security. Pomeroy, who is in a tough race to hold his North Dakota seat, told reporters in an afternoon conference call that he had been holding events throughout his state and meeting with seniors to highlight Social Security’s 75th anniversary. Pomeroy was joined on the call by Reps. Ron Klein of Florida and Jan Schakowsky of Illinois. He said seniors in his state were worried their Social Security benefits could be reduced.”
