FCC Expected To Approve Network Neutrality Today
The Associated Press reports: “New rules aimed at prohibiting broadband providers from becoming gatekeepers of Internet traffic now have just enough votes to pass the Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday. The rules would prohibit phone and cable companies from abusing their control over broadband connections to discriminate against rival content or services, such as Internet phone calls or online video, or play favorites with Web traffic. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski now has the three votes needed for approval, despite firm opposition from the two Republicans on the five-member commission.”

2010 Census To Show Slowing US Growth, GOP Gains
The Associated Press reports: “If government estimates hold true, the closely watched 2010 census will show America’s once-torrid population growth dropping to its lowest level in seven decades. In Congress, the steady migration to the South and West should be a boon for Republicans, with GOP-leaning states led by Texas picking up House seats. The Census Bureau expects to release Tuesday the first results from the once-a-decade government count, figures that will be used to reapportion the 435 House seats among the 50 states.”

Dems Prepare Defense Of Healthcare Law In Face Of Repeal Threats
The Hill reports: “Democrats are preparing a spirited defense of the healthcare law in the face of Republican efforts to dismantle it. Statements from lawmakers, advocates and the administration reveal a multi-pronged strategy as Democrats prepare to deal with a new Republican-controlled House that has made repealing the new law a top priority. Democrats say they’ll use the repeal debate to detail what they call the law’s benefits, while simultaneously attacking Republicans for wasting time — and money — refighting old battles and pushing back on court rulings against it.”

New Hampshire Seeing Mixed Messages On Thune’s 2012 Ambitions
Roll Call reports: “New Hampshire Republican operatives, already navigating recruitment calls from prospective 2012 presidential candidates, say they’re getting mixed messages about Sen. John Thune’s intentions. The South Dakota Republican is one of Capitol Hill’s favorite rumored contenders. In the state that will host the nation’s first presidential primary, however, Thune has been slow to prove he’s serious about a White House bid. He was in touch with Granite State political players regularly in the first half of 2009, but the calls dried up months ago.”
