Poll: Public Opposes Afghanistan Surge, Split On Obama’s Decision-Making
A new CNN poll finds that only 40% of Americans favor the war in Afghanistan, with 58% opposing it. American also do not support sending more troops to Afghanistan, by a 42%-56% margin. The public is split on President Obama’s decision-making process with 49% saying he is taking too long, and 50% who disagree.

Obama’s Day Ahead
President Obama and the First Lady will host a Veterans Day breakfast, at 9:05 a.m. ET in the White House. At 11 a.m. ET, he will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns, and will deliver remarks at 11:25 a.m. ET. He will meet at 2:30 p.m. ET with his national security team on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Biden’s Day Ahead
Vice President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden will join the President and First Lady at today’s Veterans Day events. At 12 p.m. ET, the Bidens will host a luncheon at the Naval Observatory, for veterans and active duty service-members and their families. In the afternoon, Biden will participate in the President’s meeting with his national security team on Afghanistan and Pakistan. In the evening, Biden will attend The Lab School of Washington’s 25th Annual Gala.

NYT: Gates, Hillary, Mullen Favor Sending More Troops To Afghanistan
The New York Times reports that three top Obama advisers favor sending 30,000 or more additional troops to Afghanistan: Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Adm. Mike Mullen. However, even here there is not unanimity: “Officials said that while Admiral Mullen and Mrs. Clinton were generally in sync with Mr. Gates in supporting an option of about 30,000 troops, there were variations in their positions and they were not working in lock step.”

Hillary Clinton Urges Elections In Myanmar
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has urged Myanmar to plan for elections in 2010: “We’re seeking … a process inside Burma that would inspire a dialogue among all of the stakeholders so that there could be a growing consensus within Burma itself about the way forward.”

Senate Won’t Be In Session For Thanksgiving Week
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) will not keep the Senate open during the week of Thanksgiving, but work on the health care bill could continue into the weekend of November 21. “Harry’s made a pretty serious promise to the Members that we won’t be here Thanksgiving week,” said Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL).

CQ: Term Limits Not A Big Issue — It Pays To Overstay
Amidst a new push from conservatives for Congressional term limits, CQ notes that the issue has not been a big draw among voters. As key evidence, members of Congress who make term-limit pledges often end up breaking them — of the 73 lawmakers who made personal term-limit pledges in 1994, 68 ended up breaking them.
