Cost Of Military Campaign In Libya Could Wipe Out GOP’s Spending Cuts
The Hill reports: “U.S. military operations in Libya could wipe out a significant chunk of the budget cuts won by congressional Republicans in recent weeks, defense analysts say. GOP leaders have trumpeted enacted spending reductions that amount to more than $285 million per day since the beginning of March. But defense analysts say the Pentagon could be burning through more than $100 million per day in Libya, putting those budget savings at risk.”

Obama’s Day Ahead
The First Family departed from Santiago, Chile, at 8 a.m. ET, and will arrive at 2:45 p.m. ET in San Salvador, El Salvador. The President and First Lady will participate in an arrival ceremony at 3:30 p.m. ET. Obama will hold a bilateral meeting with El Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes at 3:50 p.m. ET, , with an expanded bilateral meeting at 4:20 p.m. ET, and a joint press conference at 4:55 p.m. ET. The President and First Lady will attend an official dinner hosted by President Funes at 10:10 p.m. ET.

Biden’s Day Ahead
Vice President Biden hosted a breakfast meeting at 7:45 a.m. ET with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. At 10 a.m. ET, he will attend the “Building a Grad Nation Summit” at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., and deliver remarks on the investing in education. He will meet with senior advisers in the afternoon.

Obama Offers New U.S. Partnership With Latin America
Reuters reports: “President Barack Obama called on Monday for a ‘new era of partnership’ with Latin America as he acknowledged a sometimes troubled past between Washington and its neighbors in the region. But his mission to reassert Washington’s influence south of the border was punctuated by questions over the U.S. role in fierce air assaults over Libya, and aides scrambled to keep him up to speed on the attacks in between talks with heads of state and policy speeches.”

Gates Arrives In Moscow Amid Kremlin Rift Over Libya
Reuters reports: “U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates arrived in Moscow on Tuesday for talks on Libya in the middle of the first major public spat between Kremlin chief Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Gates will not meet Putin but will see President Medvedev, who rebuked his mentor on Monday for comparing the West’s call for action in Libya to the crusades, the most public difference yet between Russia’s ruling tandem ahead of 2012 elections.”

Spending Negotiations To Revive Health Care Fight
Roll Call reports: “Republicans have recently been focusing most of their attention on pressuring Democrats to slash spending, but they haven’t completely taken their eyes off their goal of blocking the health care overhaul law. The next test for GOP leaders will come in a few weeks, when they must decide how hard to push to defund parts of the law through a long-term continuing resolution, while trying to avoid a government shutdown.”
