D.C insider Neil Livingstone has decided to run for governor in Montana. Livingstone, a Republican, filed with the state’s Commissioner of Political Practices on Friday and has launched a website and a Twitter account. TPM recently spoke to Livingstone after his firm, Executive Action, LLC, sponsored an event in support of an Iranian opposition group currently considered a terrorist organization by the State Department.

Executive Action bills itself a “McKinsey & Company with muscle,” and Livingstone has written books on terrorism, security, and foreign policy, and makes cable news appearances as a terrorism expert.

“I’ve made my living all over the world for many years,” Livingstone told The Billings Gazette, which noted that several other Republicans, including former Rep. Rick Hill, are already in the race. “I want to bring that experience and expertise back to the state.”

In late January, TPM spoke with Livingstone after Executive Action helped organize an event in which a number of prominent national security experts and former government officials expressed support for the Mujahedin-e Khalq, or MEK. As TPM has reported, despite a troubled history, the MEK has a long had supporters in Washington. Recent events organized by Livingstone’s group have featured some of the MEK’s most high-profile backers yet.
