A new InsiderAdvantage poll of the Georgia Republican gubernatorial runoff shows a statistical tie between former Rep. Nathan Deal and former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel, 46%-46%.
Handel, a Palin-backed “Mama Grizzly,” came out on top in the primary, with 34% of the vote, but it wasn’t nearly enough to avoid a runoff. The birther-curious Deal now appears to remain in the fight for the Republican nomination. There is no other InsiderAdvantage poll for direct comparison, though a Landmark Communications poll conducted on August 1 paints a bit of a different picture, with Handel leading 46%-37%.
The winner of Tuesday’s runoff will go head-to-head with Democratic former Gov. Roy Barnes in the general election.
The margin of error of the latest InsiderAdvantage poll is ±4.0. For more on the race, check out TPMDC’s full coverage here.
