Coming soon to a campaign rally near you: Tim Pawlenty, 2012.

Pawlenty, the former Minnesota governor and current presidential aspirant, responded Monday to President Obama’s first reelection campaign video with a video of his own. And, as with his previous ad spots, this one also looks like something of a trailer for a summer movie blockbuster.

The video opens with a clock ominously ticking over a foreboding, resonant soundtrack. Lightning flashes from storm clouds gathered above the White House.

Enter Pawlenty.

“I’ve got a question for you,” Pawlenty says. “How can America win the future, when we’re losing the present?”

The video then uses quick scene cuts to roll through grainy, washed-out images of long unemployment lines, home foreclosures and high gas prices. Sound bites about the moribund economy punctuate the footage, before Pawlenty appears on screen to close the ad.

“In order for America to take a new direction, it’s gonna take a new president,” he says.
