Sen. Michael Bennet’s campaign will get a presidential boost later this month, with a visit from President Obama on tap for Feb. 18.
Bennet (D-CO) is facing a tough primary challenge and the seat is a top target for Republicans. He was appointed to replace Sen. Ken Salazar, who stepped down to become Obama’s Secretary of the Interior.
Craig Hughes, Bennet’s campaign manager, sent supporters an email today announcing the Obama visit as a “special day.”
“There is a groundswell of grassroots support growing across the state in support of Michael Bennet’s campaign for U.S. Senate. That’s exactly why the President is coming — he wants to be a part of this movement and show his support for keeping Michael as a valuable leader in the Senate,” Hughes said, adding that tickets “will go fast.”
“This will be a great opportunity to hear the President speak about the critical issues facing our country,” he added.
Obama also will do several fundraisers that day, for Bennet and the Colorado Democratic party.
Senate leadership allowed Bennet and other vulnerable Democrats to ask Obama questions during his visit to their off-campus retreat yesterday.
Hughes sent supporters a link to this video of Bennet’s question, about how he thinks Washington should be changed.
