In some big news, President Obama is running for re-election. Well, we knew that already — but his campaign is gearing up with some important staff reshuffles.
As the Chicago Tribune reports, Obama has made the much-anticipated decision that Chicago will host his campaign headquarters. This is a departure from recent history, compared to presidents in the past few decades who based their re-election campaigns in the D.C. metropolitan area. It is believed that an anti-Washington climate may have contributed to the decision.
In addition, as Greg Sargent reports, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine has sent a letter to DNC members, outlining some changes: DNC executive director Jen O’Malley Dillon will transfer over to become a deputy campaign manager for Obama, and she will be replaced by White House Political Director Patrick Gaspard.
And the Chicago Sun-Times reports: “Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina will move to Chicago to manager the campaign. Messina has scheduled meetings in Chicago on Feb. 2 to re-connect with leaders from the 2008 campaign drive.”
