The NRSC is firing back at Harry Reid’s reposting of Sharron Angle’s old website — by posting a fake Harry Reid website as a parody.

After she won the Republican primary a month ago, Angle’s campaign took down most of its website, and later replaced it with a relaunched version that toned down her right-wing positions. But the Reid campaign saved the old version, and put up a website called “The Real Sharron Angle,” reproducing the old content. Then last Friday, the Angle campaign sent them a cease-and-desist letter, alleging violation of copyrights and that the site was Angle’s intellectual property. In response, the Reid campaign briefly took down the site — then made some slight modifications, and put it right back up again. And in response, Angle is still threatening legal action.

Now the NRSC has come out with “The Real Harry Reid,” taking the current layout and overall look of Reid’s website, but with headlines about high unemployment and the national debt.

We asked Team Reid for comment. Spokesman Kelly Steele told us:

This is just a pathetic attempt by Sharron Angle’s new DC handlers to distract from a campaign that’s clearly spiraling out-of-control. As opposed to the NRSC’s false and misleading attack site, TheRealSharronAngle.com simply showcases Sharron Angle’s radical and extreme agenda in her very own words. Eliminating Social Security, abolishing the Department of Education, turning Yucca Mountain into America’s nuclear waste haven, pulling the US out of the United Nations, and deregulating big oil companies like BP – these policies are all Angle’s truly-held beliefs, in her own words, before her DC handlers deemed them too extreme and dangerous. The fact that Sharron Angle is going to court to censor publication of her own words shows how truly terrified she is of Nevadans learning the truth about her record.

Late Update: NRSC communications director Brian Walsh sends us this comment:

The Reid campaign got a little ahead of themselves with their response. Before labeling it a ‘false and misleading attack site’ they would have been advised to take note of the big section with videos of Harry Reid in his own words. I can assure the Reid campaign that even we could not make up some of the outrageous things Harry Reid has said over the years, even if we tried.
