Democrat Mark Dayton today called Republican Tom Emmer’s attempt to challenge the results of Minnesota’s governor’s race in court “desperate.”
The Republican Party of Minnesota and Emmer’s campaign filed a petition with the state’s Supreme Court, alleging that there was some “overvoting” in the election as a result of improper record-keeping.
Dayton was on Minnesota Public Radio’s Morning Edition, and said that Emmer and the Republicans “know they’re way behind. It’s just throwing Hail Maries, it’s throwing spit balls at the wall to see which ones will stick.”
Dayton leads Emmer by about 8,700 votes, which is within the margin necessary to trigger a recount.
