The new Ipsos/Reuters poll of the Florida Senate race shows that the ex-Republican and now independent Gov. Charlie Crist continues to lead in this always interesting three-way race.
The numbers: Crist 35%, Republican former state House Speaker Marco Rubio 28%, and Democratic Rep. Kendrick Meek 17%. The survey of registered voters has a ±4% margin of error. In the previous Ipsos poll from mid-May, conducted for McClatchy, Crist led by a narrower 30%-27%-15%.
The TPM Poll Average gives Crist 36.6%, Rubio 32.6%, and Meek 14.7%. Ipsos pollster Cliff Young said: “Generally incumbents have been at a disadvantage this year, but that hasn’t been the case with Crist in Florida. The move to running as an independent has paid off. He’s capturing the middle space.”
