With Newt Gingrich gearing up to run for president, he already has a top-flight endorsement in the key first caucus state of Iowa, with state House Majority Leader Linda Upmeyer enthusiastically backing him during his latest visit to the state today.

The Des Moines Register reports:

“I, for one, think that this is just the right guy to be president of the United States. And I think there’s a whole lot of people in this room who agree with me,” Upmeyer said at the close of Gingrich’s speech to about 600 at the Iowa Renewable Fuel Association’s Summit in Des Moines today.

Upmeyer is a longtime supporter of Gingrich, the former U.S. House speaker weighing a presidential campaign.
