Sean Mahoney, a former member of the Republican National Committee from New Hampshire, is now running for Congress as anti-GOP establishment outsider — declaring that he himself has been let down by the party.

Mahoney officially launched his campaign Monday, seeking the GOP nomination agains incumbent Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter. In his Web video, Mahoney can be seen addressing a crowd and bluntly declaring: “But you know, I’m not hereto just cast aspersions on the Democrats, because quite frankly I’m a member of the Republican Party, that the Republicans are just as to blame for some of the mess we’re in right now. Over the last ten years, my Republican Party abandoned me as a conservative.”

Mahoney resigned his position as an RNC member two weeks ago, in the wake of the scandal over RNC expenditures at a bondage-themed nightclub in West Hollywood. “I know up here in New Hampshire we as a state party has opened our doors to tea party activists who want to engage,” Mahoney told TPM at the time. “I think the RNC would be doing itself a disservice if it didn’t reach out to tea party activists and listen to them and understand their concerns.”
