Creigh Deeds is now raising money from yet another apparent Republican attack — this time from none other than Rush Limbaugh, who declared yesterday that Deeds is a “mealy-mouthed idiot.”

In a new fundraising e-mail, Deeds supporters are urged to “make a contribution and show Rush Limbaugh and our childish opponents that when they launch personal attacks on Creigh, they only embolden our resolve to keep Virginia moving forward.”

Last week, of course, McDonnell supporter Sheila Johnson got in hot water for making fun of Deeds for stuttering. It’s not clear whether Limbaugh’s “mealy-mouthed” line was a reference to Deeds’ speech, or whether it was simply a random insult.

When Rush Limbaugh Attacks…

Dear Friend,

During last night’s debate, Bob McDonnell had the audacity to declare that “We need more civility in politics” — on the very same day that Rush Limbaugh called Creigh Deeds a “mealy-mouthed idiot.” This comes just days after one of Bob’s chief campaign surrogates mocked Creigh’s speaking style, provoking outrage from reporters and independent political observers.

We couldn’t believe that Bob was pleading to change the political discourse when he can’t even muster the courage to purge this kind of hateful rhetoric from the ranks of his own supporters.

But we talked to Creigh after last night’s debate and, like always, he had a way of calming us down and reminding us what’s at stake on November 3.

Creigh reminded us about the serious challenges we face here in Virginia, and how we must make sure we move Virginia forward. And he told us that all the childish attacks from our opponents should only serve to make us stronger.

Creigh won last night’s debate hands-down, highlighting his detailed agenda to create opportunity while Bob once again repeated his support for George W. Bush’s failed economic policies. Creigh wasn’t the smooth speaker — but he was the honest one with the right direction for the Commonwealth on transportation, education, small business, and every other issue important to Virginians.

Bob’s backward agenda was again on display yesterday, as he told us that he would rescind a ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation in state hiring practices. Moreover, he could not defend why he voted against giving women equal pay for equal work, or why, when he served as a trustee of Regent University, he tolerated a policy that discriminated against women. Creigh Deeds has opposed discrimination his entire career, and last night’s debate was indicative of the stark choice in this election: Bob will take us backward, while Creigh will move us forward and bring opportunity to every corner of the Commonwealth.

We can’t afford to move backward. Please make a contribution today to help Creigh win on November 3.

So long as we can focus the discussion on the issues that matter, we will win this thing. But we need your help to get our message out. Click here to make a contribution today.

Sincerely,

Mo Elleithee
