Gov. Charlie Crist said today that while he’s “disappointed” about the news that his ally Jim Greer had been arrested, he doesn’t feel responsible for Greer’s actions.

“I do not feel complicit,” Crist said.

Former Florida GOP chair Greer is charged with six felony counts of fraud, theft, and money laundering in connection with a company he allegedly created to take a cut of the state party’s fundraising revenues, Florida authorities announced this morning.

Crist had appointed Greer to lead the state party in 2007. Greer stepped down in January amid a wide-ranging spending scandal, well before the current charges came to light.

Florida authorities declined to comment today on whether Crist had been interviewed as part of the Greer probe. They did say, however, that Crist was “given a notification this morning” of the charges.

Crist also said that Greer’s arrest would not affect his Senate run.

“As I said earlier, it’s disappointing, it’s surprising,” Crist said. “Sometimes you’re disappointed by people.”

And this:

“I have faith in our judicial system,” Crist said. “I know they will handle it appropriately.”
