A pro-Jerry Brown group is going after Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman’s record as CEO of eBay, putting $2 million into a television ad campaign that will blanket California airwaves for the next 10 days.

California Working Families for Jerry Brown for Governor started airing the ad yesterday with the message that Whitman would be wrong for the state’s fiscal picture. The narrator warns voters in an ominous tone, “California is in crisis. Under Meg Whitman it could crumble.”

The ads will run on statewide cable and on broadcast stations in Southern California. Also on the air is an ad (you can watch it here) that mentions that Whitman settled a lawsuit with an eBay employee who alleged Whitman had shoved her.

As we’ve written, both Whitman and Senate GOP nominee Carly Fiorina will be put on the defensive this fall over their records leading top California companies. Of course, the eBay critique the pro-Brown group lays out here is harder to justify given it is still a successful company with global brand recognition.

The TPM Poll Average of this race has Brown 44.6%-Whitman 42.7%.
