Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA), a three-term Congressman and medical doctor, will be giving the Republican response to President Obama’s address on health care tomorrow night, George Stephanopoulos reports.
Greg Sargent reports that the speech will utilize the standard Republican talking points in this area — that Democrats are refusing to work with Republicans, and that they’ll put government bureaucrats between you and your doctor.
In a way, this may just signify a move towards a sane opposition policy, in that Boustany has previously co-sponsored with Democrats proposals on end-of-life counseling — the same legislative language that became the basis of the “death panels” that Sarah Palin and others have demonized. In August, Boustany told USA Today that the issue would have to be revisited “at some point when the temperature had cooled down.” He also lamented: “Frankly, this thing got really out of hand.”
