The fight over whether a Boca Raton mosque should be allowed to serve as a polling site is a microcosm of the fierce national debate about the way Muslim Americans are viewed in the age of ISIS. As TPM’s Allegra Kirkland has reported this week, the mosque president, civil rights groups, and local clergy say that an elections official’s decision to remove the Islamic Center of Boca Raton as a polling site caves to Islamophobia, while conservative groups and politicians say voters shouldn’t have to feel “uncomfortable” at their polling centers.

Agree or Disagree?

Josh Marshall: “Coming up on an hour I was feeling amazed that this man whose face had gotten very red was basically yelling about America as some dystopic hellhole. Everybody takes for granted – rightly or wrongly – that an acceptance speech is supposed to be commanding but humanizing, perhaps critical of the status quo you intend to replace but nonetheless fundamentally positive, optimistic and forward-looking. This was not an admonition Trump heeded. Somehow, even though he had a prepared speech and mainly kept to it, as time went on the rabble rousing speaker from the primary rallies managed to come fully into view, the whole raging package. I have no doubt it got his existing supporters very charged up. But there was very little I saw that I thought non-supporters or currently uncommitted voters would find appealing or compelling or even just not scary.”

Say What?!

“He’s talking about an adult versus a whining baby.”

– Trump’s business lawyer called Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) infantile compared to Donald Trump, who he called “an adult.”

BUZZING: Today in the Hive

From a TPM Prime member: “Trump’s free media bonanza is becoming less of a benefit than it was in the primaries, when he was still an amusing side show for the most part (at least the media viewed it that way). Sure, he still gets a free ride on Fox News, which is fine, 99% of Fox News viewers are already Trump supporters anyway, who cares. But by and large the rest of the media is done with the, ‘let Donald call up and say some crazy shit’ theory of ratings, and moving into challenging him on his bullshit, baseless assertions and outright lies. Trump truly believes that all press is good press, but that’s just not true in politics.”

Related: The Trump campaign narrowed its fundraising gap with Hillary Clinton’s campaign in June, raising $21.9 million.
