From The Reporter’s Notebook

TPM’s Sara Jerde wrote about President Barack Obama mentioning that Thomas Jefferson was accused of being a Muslim in a speech given Wednesday. As the Washington Post reported, Jefferson defended broader protections for religious liberties in legislation passed in Virginia. The law later served as a foundation for the religious freedoms outlined in the Constitution.

Agree or Disagree?

Josh Marshall on Wednesday’s CNN town hall: “Sanders is saying that the kind of society most Democrats want can’t be achieved by operating within the current system–you need a fundamental shift in the role of money in public life, the values that drive our political system… Clinton is coming at things from an altogether different vantage point: Think what we could lose. Think about all the tangible, if incremental, things we’ve achieved and realize that we could lose them. The Affordable Care Act, voting rights, advances for women and the LGBT community.”

Say What?!

BUZZING: Today in the Hive

From a TPM Prime member: “One thing I’ve noted in my FB feed and seen in twitter is a lot of Bernie folks are touting a narrative that “Hillary won because of coin tosses” — and MSNBC seems to be at the heart for creating this narrative. The Atlantic seems to suggest that the coin toss wasn’t significant in determining the outcomes, really, but it makes for a great narrative. Have others seen this? I’ve started to push back on my Facebook friends who say things like “Hillary won because of a coin toss. Thanks Iowa.” Because that seems like crap — but do others have conflicting/better data?”
