BUZZING: Today in the Hive

From a TPM Prime member:“If we’re calling out historical figures, how about Bayard Rustin? Student of Gandhi, schooled MLK in nonviolence, and explicitly linked the gay rights struggle to that of black Americans — something, incidentally, that MLK and other civil rights leaders agreed with, but they feared that the optics of an openly gay black man in a leadership position would make the struggle against racial discrimination more difficult. His later trajectory was surprising — an anti-Communist socialist, he was strongly pro-Israeli and became a founding member of the neoconservative movement.”

Related: Rustin as the man homophobia almost erased from history.
