Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA)urged President Donald Trump to avoid making statements that would damage his credibility and to stop making “groundless ” accusations, TPM’s Kristin Salaky reported. “When a President of the United States makes claims that are proved baseless, it weakens the Presidency and undermines our security and standing in the world. Presidential credibility, once squandered, may never be fully regained,” he said.
Agree or Disagree?
John Judis: “The fly in this magic ointment is Trump’s presidency. As Rob notes, outside of jawboning a few companies and complaining about bad trade deals, Trump has yet to do anything that would actually spur advanced manufacturing. In fact, he is doing less than nothing. In his budget, he cuts rather than increases funds for government programs aimed at helping advanced manufacturing. And his administration appears predictably divided on what to do about the “bad trade deals” that have cost manufacturing jobs. Trump raised the issue of reviving American manufacturing his campaign – and his success demonstrated that many voters care about what has happened to these jobs – but he is ill prepared to do anything about it. Instead of dismissing these concerns because Trump raised them, Democrats should reclaim them as their own.”

From a TPM Prime member: “There are 50 states in this union that have the AHCA and to me it seems the republicans did nothing but focus on the states that are failing. When these representatives get back to their home state maybe they should contact the governor and find out what is working and what is not. They should then look at states where the AHCA is working and see if they can incorporate that system or something similar into theirs, just saying it doesn’t work and focusing on the negative is not a healthy way to look at anything. I feel now the democrats should start putting fort what they think will fix the AHCA. The dems should make the news round and put their proposals out there as they have hardly defended it or supported it for the past seven years. If the dems want yo succeed in 2018 and 2020 they need to put their man pants and step up. They have to be stronger then Trump.”
