Meet The Anti-Muslim Adviser Behind Ben Carson’s ‘Chinese In Syria’ Claims

The Gist: The Carson campaign’s single named confidante on national security believes that we’ve been “infiltrated” by Muslim extremists and that Common Core is a threat to national security.

GOP Candidates Push Restrictions On Syrian Refugees After Paris Attacks

The Gist:  Following Friday’s deadly terrorist attack in Paris, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Ben Carson and Jeb Bush have called for U.S. officials to restrict the country’s acceptance of Syrian refugees.

From The Reporter’s Notebook

Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder dismissed the protestors at his state’s flagship university campus, University of Missouri at Columbia, telling Fox News “we are not racist.” Kinder cited black campus leaders including football player Michael Sam and Mizzou student body president Payton Head as proof that the protesters’ claims of racism were overblown. But as TPM’s Caitlin Cruz points out, having administrators and footballers of color doesn’t dispel the fact that Mizzou’s campus is at a turning point. The university has two choices: Listen and change, or dismiss and retreat.

Josh Marshall thought Saturday’s Democratic debate was “surprisingly substantive,” with hard-hitting exchanges on national security and the financial sector. Overall, he said, the debate was “a win for Hillary Clinton—not because she necessarily did better than Sanders but because she’s now ahead” and nothing happened to change that dynamic.

Say What?!

– Ann Coulter also tweeted that Trump was essentially elected president because of the Paris attacks.

BUZZING: Today in the Hive

From a TPM Prime member: “I’ve been thinking and trying to figure out why the ISIS would target France. Is it an easier target? Are they more lax on security? Have they done something above and beyond what other countries have done to inspire this wrath? My big fear is that this pushes Marine Le Pen even further up in the polls to the point of controlling the whole government. I haven’t seen any comment from her in the news today…but I’m sure it will come. I’m hearing much of this might have been staged in Belgium. Why is that. This all seems very confusing to me.”

Related: At the G20 Summit, Obama called the attacks on Paris an “attack on the civilized world.”
