What’s Up With Wexler?

As you know, Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL), a rising star in the Democratic party from an uber-safe seat in Florida, has announced he’s resigning from Congress to run a smallish DC think-tank. Normally, such an abrupt move would invite a lot of questions about whether there weren’t some hidden issue forcing Wexler’s hand. But there’s an interesting theory circulating in foreign policy and mideast policy circles that Wexler is taking this position to become a powerful pro-peace voice, in support of President Obama, on the Israel-Palestine issue. The think tank is the Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Cooperation. Spencer Ackerman discusses it here. I think this counts as an extremely speculative theory. But there aren’t much better explanations. Here’s our round-up of what people are saying.
