Bowers is right for a change. There isn’t a media outlet around including TPM that isn’t distorting the truth.and making it seem as if every townhall meeting is a hate fest for Dems and the president. Clair McCaskill’s event yesterday looked like it was at least a 50/50 split on teevee if not more so with only 20% at most making noise yet Eric K said the crowd was anti-reform. Obama takes 3 or 4 questions from people who aren’t supporters or grumble about curent health care and MSNBC claims he only answered questions from plants, or Chuck Todd’s take “they were too awed by the office of the presidency to be assholes” and then they spend half the day on the Paultard outside with the gun.
I’ve seen a dozen or so diaries on Kos since the weekend that say we’ve taken back these meetings, that the loudmouths are being shushed and shamed when they act up. Yet you guys and the cablenets cherry pick a steady diet of the worst of the worst. I’m trying to get Dems out to these events and you’re making job harder.My congreesswoman Judy Biggert (IL-13) until today has held only closed door, inviitation only, events. She and Mark Kirk are holding one this am at a hotel in Naperville sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce that is supposedly open to all. We’ll see about that. But the resistance I’m running into from people on our side is “I don’t want to get mobbed” “I don’t want to get shot” especially from women. That’s exactly the reaction wingnuts are hoping for and you’re playing right into their hands. A little less sensationalism and more balance please.
