Businessman Donald Trump repeatedly called Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) “the single biggest liar” in the GOP field during Saturday night’s Republican presidential debate.

The clash between the dueling frontrunners began when Cruz said Trump supported giving federal funds to Planned Parenthood.

“You are the single biggest liar,” Trump said, wagging his finger at Cruz. “You are probably worse than Jeb Bush. You are the single biggest liar.”

Trump then brought up how Cruz operatives had told Iowa caucusgoers that retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson dropped out of the presidential race. He alleged similar “robocalls” were going out in South Carolina telling voters that Trump wasn’t running in the Palmetto State.

“Today, we had robocalls saying, ‘Donald Trump is not going to run in South Carolina,’ where I’m leading by a lot. I’m not going to run. ‘Vote for Ted Cruz.’ This is the same thing he did to Ben Carson,” Trump explained. “This guy will say anything. Nasty guy. Now I know why he doesn’t have one endorsement from any of his colleagues.”

Cruz then turned the liar charge back onto Trump.

“Donald didn’t disagree with the substance that he supports taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood,” Cruz said. “And Donald has this weird pattern: When you point to his own record he screams liar, liar, liar.”

Trump later tried to regain control of the conversation by calling Cruz a liar yet again when talking about the appointment of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.

“I did not nominate John Roberts. I would not have nominated John Roberts,” Cruz said.

To which Trump replied, “You pushed him. You pushed him. … Why do you lie? Why do you lie?”

Cruz chose to played the decorum card in response: “Donald, adults learn not to interrupt each other.”

But Trump wouldn’t relent.

“Why do you lie? You pushed him,” he said. “Yeah, yeah, I know, you’re an adult. You’re an adult.”
