After a local Border Patrol union in Laredo, Texas, pulled out of its Thursday tour of the U.S.-Mexico border with Donald Trump, the real estate mogul blamed the cancellation on “pressure at the national level.”

“The National Border Patrol Council, Local 2455 in Laredo, Texas, invited Mr. Trump to be their guest and then they were silenced directly from superiors in Washington who do not want people to know how bad it is on the border — every bit as bad as Mr. Trump has been saying,” Trump said in a statement released on Thursday morning.

The local union announced Thursday morning that they would cancel their tour with Trump, clarifying that they never intended to endorse him as a candidate.

Despite the cancellation of a formal tour, Trump insists that he will visit the border, claiming that politicians in Washington, D.C., are trying to hide the realities at the border from Trump and American voters.

“Despite the great danger, Mr. Trump is traveling to Laredo, TX to proceed with the visit to the border. It is unfortunate the local union of Border Patrol Agents received pressure at the national level not to participate and ultimately pulled out of today’s event. They are being silenced, and are very unhappy about it, as told directly to Mr. Trump,” he said in his Thursday statement. “It can only be assumed that there are things the politicians in Washington to not want Americans to see or discuss. It shows that we are not even safe in our own country. It is time to face these hard truths and Make America Great Again!”
