Reading your responses (for which I thank you) to my post on Bob Dylan’s ‘Christian period’ music, I thought I’d go back through our archives and try to pull together everything I’ve written about Dylan over the years. I was mainly surprised at just how little I had in fact written. My knowledge of how much thought I’ve given to the matter and my memory of putting together words to convey those thoughts simply doesn’t match up with the evidence. I have some sneaking fear that some stuff may be hidden in our imperfectly indexed archives. But selective memory is the more logical culprit.

I was able to come up with just seven posts that were in any way substantial out of the literally tens of thousands I’ve written over 17 years of those. And one of those is a reflection on the death of Pete Seeger, in which Dylan is a secondary player.

Here are the seven.

January 31st, 2011: 50 Years Ago, a few thoughts on the 50th anniversary of Dylan’s arrival in Greenwich Village in January 1961.

March 2nd, 2011: Suze Rotolo: 1943-2011, a remembrance and thoughts on Suze Rotolo, a New York artist and Parsons professor who was Dylan’s girlfriend during the first three years or so of his career. You may not know her name but if you’ve seen the cover of Dylan’s second album you know her face.

September 21st, 2012: Dylanology & the Birther Conspiracy, a weird story of one Dylan fanatic’s sideline in birtherism.

January 29th, 2014: Pete Seeger, remembrance, reflections and thoughts on the death of Pete Seeger, “One of those people who simply don’t die.”

October 13, 2016: A Few Thoughts on Dylan’s Big Day, Reflections on Dylan winning the Nobel last year.

October 15th, 2016: Don’t Look Back, a riff on a Letterman performance from 1984 I’d never seen before (or didn’t remember seeing) and the story behind it.

December 27th, 2017: Dylan and the Cross, thoughts and speculations on some overlooked and underrated music, now revisited in a new ‘Bootleg Series’ release.
