It looks like Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock (R) may have a primary opponent in the Republican primary for Rep. Frank Wolf’s (R-VA) House seat: conservative state Del. Bob Marshall (R).

Marshall told Roll Call on Tuesday that he was “seriously considering” jumping into the Republican primary for Wolf’s seat. If Marshall does decide to run that would mean Comstock, who was quickly becoming the consensus candidate in the race, would still have to find off a far right challenger to get the nomination.

Another social conservative in the state legislature, state Sen. Dick Black, announced he would not run for the GOP nomination in January. Black, who opposed criminalizing spousal rape, is a close ally of Marshall.

The Virginia lawmaker wanted his state to mint its own coins. Marshall has also compared Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring’s (D) decision to not defend the state’s same-sex marriage ban to the Dred Scott v. Sandford decision.

Marshall also ran for the United States Senate twice, most recently in 2012 but he failed to get the GOP nomination to face Democrat Tim Kaine in the general election.

Marshall has also argued that children with disabilities are nature’s “vengeance” for abortion.

“The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically,” Marshall reportedly said in 2010. “Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children.”
